Those who have longer memories than most will recall the early days of the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup, held along the coast in Valencia. But that was in early April, late August was expected to be better. Well, not on Day 2 of the Louis Vuitton Cup.

Four races were sailed on Day 1 of the Louis Vuitton Cup in Barcelona. There were plenty of unexpected surprises, not the least of which was the big step up in the standard of racing and reliability, from the Preliminary Event sailed less than a week ago.

The final day of the Louis Vuitton Preliminary Event lifted, what had been a lack-lustre event marked by breakdown, onto a new level. The fourth day of racing was keenly contested with plenty of surprises - certainly in the first half of the races.

The breeze in Marseille was largely a no-show on Tuesday, and the forecast for Wednesday is for even less. In race 6 of the Women's Kite, six riders, including the overall point leader, could not get their kites flying, and the race started without them.
